Smarter Woman

In another life, I was a smarter woman.
I did not fall in love with you,
I did not lay bare my soul for you to eat
But instead I was a lantern
in otherwise dim hallways.

I was anything - I could be anything!
If only I could forget the way it felt when
Your cool hands touched my bare skin,
And brought me back home again.
How I long to be in your arms.
